Qualifications for Ministerial Service Award
1) Ministerial credentials must be current.
2) 40 or 50 years of "active" ministry in The Wesleyan Church.
3) Active ministry means "under appointment" with a specific assignment either as a part-time.
or full-time minister. (A minister in The Wesleyan Church is assigned ministerial
responsibilities as a licensed minister before being ordained.)
4) Ministers can be assigned by their district conference to the Discipline category of
"Retired Minister" yet be considered in active ministry in their local church with a
specific assignment such as "Calling and Visitation Pastor." Such years are countable.
5) Years in which there has been no ministerial assignment and the minister has
been categorized by the district conference as "On Reserve," "Without Appointment,"
"On Educational Leave" should not be counted.
6) Years spent in preparation for ministry in college or seminary are not to be counted
unless during the same period of time the minister is officially assigned "Under
Appointment" to active ministry.
7) To determine the number of years of ministry; start with the month and year ministry officially began and count up.
8) A person who received a 40-year award is eligible for a 50-year award if they have
accumulated the additional 10 years of"active" ministry.
9) The district superintendent determines the eligibility of a minister for this award.
